Project Spotlight: Peace Education and Practice Network (PEPNET)

Across the African continent, countries continue to battle with complex conflict dynamics, poor governance, and weak institutions. Nigeria in particular is burdened by recurring violence, ethno-religious tension, insecurity, economic inequality, and intergenerational poverty. Despite a growing movement of youth-led and community-based peacebuilding efforts, capacity gaps in technical knowledge, program design, inclusive engagement, and sustainability practices remain a major obstacle.

Peace Catalyst’s team member Moses Abolade is working tirelessly to provide resources and training opportunities to equip Africa’s peacebuilders for effective, long-lasting change across the African continent. His work focuses on faith-based peacebuilding, youth leadership, and media-driven learning that empowers communities across divides. He is also the Executive Director of the Peace Education and Practice Network (PEPNET), a nonprofit founded in 2018 and headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria, working at the intersection of peace, education, governance, and development. Its goal is to strengthen the practical and professional competencies of early-career peacebuilders, educators, development actors, and nonprofit leaders through transformative training in peace education and management.

PEPNET convened its third cohort of the Peace Education and Management Training (PEMAT) in the fall of 2025, aiming to bridge the gap between theory and practice in peacebuilding for a new generation of peacebuilders across Africa and beyond. PEPNET also develops peace education resources including the Peace Education for Secondary Schools (PESS) curriculum, which aims to integrate peace education into secondary schools in Nigeria by equipping educators with the tools and resources necessary to teach conflict resolution skills, human rights, and social justice to students. PEPNET’s Back 2 School Project aims to make quality education accessible for all children. By providing safe learning environments and essential resources, the program empowers students to develop critical thinking, resilience, and community-minded values.

Peace Catalyst is a proud partner of PEPNET and its initiatives through Moses. Please consider donating to his work working with peacebuilders in Nigeria and beyond at Moses’s Peace Catalyst page here.
