This is What Local Peacemaking Looks Like
It’s a diverse community with the potential for dangerous divisions. But it’s this very diversity that is bringing people of different faiths and all walks of life together.
A major refugee resettlement city, Boise is home to new Americans from around the world, a majority of them Muslims, and Peace Catalyst peacemakers Nick and Laura Armstrong are at the heart of local efforts that are bringing community members together in deep and perhaps unexpected friendships.
Peace Catalyst is a movement crowdfunded by people like you, so this work is yours as much as it is ours. Here are just some of the ways you’re helping bring people together in Boise and how to get more involved:
Peace Feasts are shared meals between Christians and Muslims and are an easy way for community members to get to know each other, build relationships, and gain a better understanding of one another’s faiths.
Newly arrived refugee families are partnered with local Boiseans for friendship, support, and community connection. We’d always love more Friendship Partner volunteers, so if you live in Boise and want to join us, let us know!
Families and individuals arriving in Boise as refugees need to set up new homes, and collecting household items can be a large financial burden on those who have already been through so much. That’s why we run The Shed, where we collect and distribute kits of necessary household items to help those in need.
Whether you live in Boise or elsewhere, you can donate items to The Shed to make a tangible difference for Boise families.
Weekly English classes are held to equip families to thrive in their new home, several of these classes specifically held for Rohingya families. If you live in Boise and would like to volunteer to help put on these classes, we’d love to have you!
We hold a variety of community trainings, including workshops on building empathy, building hospitality, and how to embrace each other while also respecting one another’s beliefs. We also regularly do a 2-hour training on how to build bridges between Christians and Muslims.
EMAIL US IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING OR HOSTING A TRAINING IN BOISE
The work of Peace Catalyst and peacemakers like those in Boise is a crowdfunded effort. All gifts to Peace Catalyst support this work and similar work in other cities. Thank you for being part of this with us and for choosing to #MakePeaceInstead!
