Immigrants are Welcome Here: A Community Gathering for Christians Loving, Supporting, and Protecting Their Immigrant Neighbors

Jesus was a refugee. From birth, Jesus was targeted by King Herod, forcing his family to flee. During his ministry, Jesus taught about welcoming the stranger and loving neighbors who were not like us, building upon centuries of Jewish teaching about loving, welcoming, and acting justly with immigrants and foreigners.

But now, we in America see our government violently kidnapping, detaining, and deporting people who are immigrants, refugees, and even citizens—people who are our neighbors and people who are caring for their communities and families just like the rest of us. How are we, as followers of Jesus, standing in love and solidarity with the immigrants around us?

Join Peace Catalyst and other Jesus followers for a reflective and supportive conversation to process what we are seeing and experiencing in our communities. We will name and mourn the pain our government has caused to our neighbors, ask questions and share about the many ways we are showing up to support and advocate, and make space for prayer, hope, and recommitment to the challenging path of neighbor love.

**NOTE: Because this event will be a highly interactive group conversation, it will not be recorded. However, any resources shared during the session will be sent in a followup email to everyone who registered.

P.S. — This Advent, we’re reflecting on the coming of Jesus, his future kingdom of justice and peace, and what that all means for our lives in the midst of empire right now. If you’re wondering what “empire” has to do with Advent, check out our free Advent devotional and come along on the journey with us.

*This event is part of our monthly Taste of Peace series, where we offer introductory-level conversations about all things peacebuilding and explore something new every month. We hope you’ll join us for this event and other upcoming Taste of Peace events!
