Our New Mission and Vision

This article is the second in a four-part series articulating our Mission and Vision change. For part 1, read Our Mission and Vision Change: The Story and Rationale.

MISSION: Equipping and mobilizing Christians for collaborative peacebuilding across lines of difference.

VISION: We envision diverse communities cultivating relationships with their neighbors and working together to create safe, just, and vibrant societies.

We work to equip and mobilize Christians for collaborative peacebuilding across lines of difference.

As an organization, we are committed to equipping Christians as peacebuilders in their everyday relational and social contexts, inviting them to connect across lines of difference. As these relationships grow, we can identify common goals and mobilize collaborative work to meet fundamental needs, heal wounds, build trust, and work together to create and sustain safe, just, and vibrant societies.

“...equip and mobilize Christians…”

We are committed to the Church and its peacebuilding vocation. We have expertise in equipping Christians with the theological understanding, conflict transformation framework, and practical skills that help them approach conflict and social divisions constructively in their cities and communities. At Peace Catalyst International, we mobilize Christians to form transformative, collaborative relationships and act as catalysts for positive change.

“...for collaborative peacebuilding...”

Peacebuilding is a process that aims to nonviolently transform the relationships and cultural and social conditions that generate destructive and violent conflict. We believe that God’s mission is peacebuilding: working to establish the holistic just peace captured by the Biblical concept of shalom. We also believe the Church’s vocation is to follow Jesus in this work of peacebuilding by collaborating with our diverse neighbors to transform relationships, heal communities, and work for the flourishing of all people. As such, we believe the essence of Christian discipleship is forming Christians to follow Jesus as peacebuilders. At Peace Catalyst, we inspire Christians to reimagine how we participate in God’s work toward this vision of peace.

“...across lines of difference.”

In response to increased polarization in our societies, it is our task as peacebuilders to cultivate trusting relationships across lines of difference, recognize shared needs, and name and heal the wounds that perpetuate cycles of conflict in our communities and societies. As these relationships flourish, we identify common goals around which we can work together and mobilize collaborative efforts toward cultural shifts and policy changes that sustain safe, just, and vibrant societies. Collaborating around common goals allows us to follow Jesus as peacebuilders and participate in God’s work to establish shalom.
